From bale to granulate in five steps.

Mechanical, single-variety and entirely at our site in Kühnsdorf. Scroll through the line.

The five steps.

  1. We take single-variety, clean plastics from production and post-consumer collection as bales, rolls, regrind or granulate. No sorting or washing takes place at our plant. We already help where the waste arises, so that the material is collected by type.

  2. Shredders break the single-variety raw materials down into shredded material.

  3. Granulators turn the shredded material into regrind. Ongoing quality checks ensure flawless regrind quality. Regrind is either a finished product or the preliminary stage for regranulation.

  4. Currently three extrusion lines melt the regrind and turn it into regranulate. Mixing and dosing units on the extruders allow blends and filled plastics.

  5. Material analyses in our in-house laboratory ensure quality. Collection and delivery follow a precise schedule, together with selected hauliers. Around 60% of our products are exported.

Questions about recycling

How does plastic recycling work?
At KRM, plastics collected by type are broken down in a shredder and processed into regrind in granulators. Currently three extrusion lines melt the regrind and form it into regranulate, which is used again as a raw material in production.
What is mechanical recycling?
In mechanical recycling, the molecular structure of the plastic is preserved. It is only ground and remelted. KRM uses this method.
Why is sorting by type so important?
Only plastic collected by type produces a recyclate with reliable properties. That is why KRM advises, right where the waste arises, on how to collect production waste separately.
What is made from regranulate?
Regranulate is used to make, for example, packaging, furniture, pipes, containers, car parts and textiles.
